Matej Mugerli won the 14th Porec Trophy in Croatia, bringing in the first win in the 2016 season for the Synergy Baku Cycling Project. It was the third time he has won the race, having won in 2012 and 2013.
The race was marked by heavy wind all day. With 2 laps to go on the circuit course, Mugerli and Jan Tratnik of Amplatz-BMC attacked and pulled away. He was briefly joined by teammates Ioannis Tamouridis and Matija Kvasina, who soon fell back to control the chasing field. The two leaders maintained a slight lead and Mugerli outsprinted his companion for the win.
