Crankworx World Tour kicks out with opening round at Rotorua, New Zealand

Its already that time of the year when Crankworx World Tour kicks out with opening round at Rotorua, New Zealand. The fight for King Of Crankworx has begun and Tomas Slavik was able to score points for the overall championship in all 3 events he attended and was able to take 2nd place at Air DH. What a start of the season!
Tomas Slavik: " Crankworx is getting year by year to the next level in the way of organization so as in the way of athlete performances. Racing is extremely tight and for every even tiny mistake you pay the price. Rotorua is one of my favourite stops, feeling almost like home there, loving the tracks and the surface. I was able to get 2nd at AIR DH just by 0,7 seconds, but the event I felt the most confident was Dual Slalom, where I slipped unfortunately in one of the last turns during round of 16 and my chances were over so as in Pumptrack. Last year I had a big crash in Valparaiso during urban race and it affected my last season even more then I thought in beginning. But now its back "old" me pushing hard, motivated more then ever before and just enjoying the shredding against the fastest guys in industry! Good times and absolutely stoked from the way my season started and the way I feel! Its time to rock n roll! Cant wait for the next races! :) "
Next race for Tomas was suppose to be first ever round of European Downtown Cup taking place at Lake Garda in April. If the race is about to happen is at this moment a question... we will keep you updated!

Tomas Slavik winning run, Downmall Tour Prague

The most expected stop of Downmall Tour is always final round round in Prague. Its longest track there, biggest crowd, fastest riders and of course DOUBLE points! Shopping mall was exploding and atmosphere was amazing! In the final run it was Tomas Slavik who was the only guy to get under 40 seconds mark and he took a big win! Because of double points Slavik took also overall championship win even with missing first round in Ger...many! What a day!

" Sometimes the mall racing can get a bit same and kind of stereotype racing, but when it comes to Prague its whole another different story. I was looking forward to race in front of my home crowd basically from the beginning of the Tour and racing in Czech Republic is just something I dont get very often in season. So Im really enjoying every second out there meeting my friends, family and fans. The track was really fast, physical and reeeally slippery. That was the facts which made the finals looking really wild, riders were doing mistakes, crashing and it was difficult to make a good run. Even I made a big mistake in first turn, but then rest of the track was just perfect and I was the only one out there to get under 40 seconds which made me really happy, because this guys are reaaaally fast! Cherry on top was that because of double points I took also the overall championship title even with missing the first round in Germany. Super happy about how all things went down and cant wait for another Downmall Tour. Thank you everyone for cheering and pushing us to the finish line! "

Tomas is now getting ready for Crankworx World Tour starting in 2 week in New Zealand. Tomas will be taking part in 4 different events trying to carry as many points as possible for the overall KING OF CRANKWORX. He will be racing in Dual Slalom, Air DH, Pumptrack a Speed n Style. After two years with Team Sky, the Grand Tour specialist from the Czech Republic signs with BORA

His record together with the team from Raubling, which will be named BORA – hansgrohe from 2017 onwards, is impressive: 7th in the Tour de France (2014), 9th in the Vuelta a España and a stage win (2013). With Team Sky he finished 6th in the Giro 2015. Next season König, who signed a three-year agreement, will be the team’s leader for the Tour de France 2017 starting with its Grand Départ in Düsseldorf, Germany.

“It was Enrico Poitschke and Ralph Denk back then who picked me up from a small continental team and gave me the chance to race the biggest races in the world and to progress as a rider. So when I heard about their new project and ambitions I felt like coming back home where it all started. I've learned a lot the last two years with Team Sky and I'm extremely grateful for this experience. Now I'm ready to give my best in the coming years and chase our ambitious goals.” – Leopold König

“I am very happy that Leo is coming back to our team BORA – hansgrohe. I feel honoured, because it is a big evidence of trust to make that move coming from Team Sky, and even 2016 was not his best season he still is one of a few riders that has the potential to finish a Grand Tour on the podium. Once we developed Leo from amateur level to a top ten Tour de France rider, now we look forward to learn from his experience from the last years.” – Ralph Denk, Team Manager
